My apologies for the delayed response. I have not been well of late and have missed checking my mail.

I agree with you that if there is no real need for the appointment of a webmaster other than only a perceived one, we should not proceed. However I am puzzled as to how this perception of an urgent need for a webmaster first arose. There must have been some discussion before the decision was made to move in this direction.

The question that should also be addressed is whether the work already completed meets the standards / expectations of the organization or its stakeholders. If it does, then we have even more reason to let 'sleeping dogs lie' and not create an unnecessary position and incur related expenses.

The next consideration should be the sustainability of the website so that it is continually refreshed with approved content at specific intervals and that it serves the stated goals of the Publications Unit and the PLS.  On this score alone, I am of the opinion that in the absence of a full time, dedicated and technically skilled person managing the website, the effort will falter and eventually fail unceremoniously.

My view then is that if there is consensus on the question of standards, expectations and sustainability with a trained staff at the helm, we should immediately cease the search for the webmaster.

The only caution I would add is that a fully functional and effective website truly reflective of all that PLS stands for will not be possible in the interim when a staff member is being trained to assume the role on a full time basis. Perhaps then, the PU's  current focus and goal should be on preparing the organization to launch a website viz. specialist training, document digitization and cataloging, database creation etc until such time that all internal resources are fully readied to independently launch a fully-functional, standards-compliant website at some future date.

(Shanta: for mysterious reasons, I am unable to copy this to other members of the Committee. Could you kindly do the needful to keep everyone in the loop? Thank you

With reference to the email from Mr Nadarajah Chelliah, I consider it somewhat irrelevant to the need of our organization.  We are running short of the right personnel with dedication and commitment. 

 With the attachments given at the MC held on 21 September 2013, was one application by Mr Yuen Swee Lim, a past ward of our organization, who later retired as a teacher in a national school and who had applied to stay-in and give his best to the organization.  He has produced 2 books on Malaysian medicinal plants and has had the experience in having a successful herbal garden, an aviary in Mantin where many schools had spotted this project worthy of inclusion in educational excursions.

 Committee members of the past may recall the beautiful paradise of vegetable, passion fruit and other fruit trees grown by our boys and girls of the 70's, during the Green Book Plan,  who are now doing very well in their careers.  Unfortunately, this was not encouraged by the later administrators and now with agriculture coming up as one of the top industries in Malaysia; it is time that we encourage this amongst the slow learners as a wage-earning project.

 I have already spoke of this to Dato' S Kulasegaran, the Vice-President, who is with me on this idea.

 This project need not necessarily engage all our children but also be opened up to select individuals outside the organization as part of our outreach community programme.

 Mushroom cultivation is already in action on a mini scale, just outside my residence.  It doesn't require much effort for the time-being as the scones with spores are supplied by Madam Cheng, the proprietor of the Ganofarm in Tanjung Sepat.  This is also backed up by Prof Vickneswary, who is doing a research on the different types of mushrooms and their usefulness to health.

 Enclosed are some photographs of the scones and mushrooms.

 I wish to get your support and backing for Mr Lim to stay in.  He is a confirmed bachelor whose interests are in herbal cultivation and the like.

Dear Members of the Committee of Management,

With reference to the email from Mr Nadarajah Chelliah, I consider it somewhat irrelevant to the need of our organization.  We are running short of the right personnel with dedication and commitment. 

 With the attachments given at the MC held on 21 September 2013, was one application by Mr Yuen Swee Lim, a past ward of our organization, who later retired as a teacher in a national school and who had applied to stay-in and give his best to the organization.  He has produced 2 books on Malaysian medicinal plants and has had the experience in having a successful herbal garden, an aviary in Mantin where many schools had spotted this project worthy of inclusion in educational excursions.

 Committee members of the past may recall the beautiful paradise of vegetable, passion fruit and other fruit trees grown by our boys and girls of the 70's, during the Green Book Plan,  who are now doing very well in their careers.  Unfortunately, this was not encouraged by the later administrators and now with agriculture coming up as one of the top industries in Malaysia; it is time that we encourage this amongst the slow learners as a wage-earning project.

 I have already spoke of this to Dato' S Kulasegaran, the Vice-President, who is with me on this idea.

 This project need not necessarily engage all our children but also be opened up to select individuals outside the organization as part of our outreach community programme.

 Mushroom cultivation is already in action on a mini scale, just outside my residence.  It doesn't require much effort for the time-being as the scones with spores are supplied by Madam Cheng, the proprietor of the Ganofarm in Tanjung Sepat.  This is also backed up by Prof Vickneswary, who is doing a research on the different types of mushrooms and their usefulness to health.

 Enclosed are some photographs of the scones and mushrooms.

 I wish to get your support and backing for Mr Lim to stay in.  He is a confirmed bachelor whose interests are in herbal cultivation and the like.
